Dirt and oil collect on the skin and clog pores. Clogged pores lead to skin aging and blemishes like pimples, acne, and blackheads. Regular facial cleansing removes these impurities. However, if you overdo cleansing, it can strip too much sebum and dry out your skin. Ideally, wash your face twice daily — morning and evening. Once a week, you can add an intensive cleanse with a scrub or mask.
The Right Cleansing for Your Skin Type#
The right cleansing matters! It’s important which products you use to wash your face, because not every product suits every skin type. Cleanse your face according to your skin type. We explain how to cleanse your face best for each skin type!
Dry Skin#
Dry skin needs plenty of moisture. Use a replenishing cleansing milk and avoid foaming products. Wash your face with lukewarm water — water that’s too hot can dry out your skin even more.
Oily Skin#
For oily skin, choose foaming products. Look for oil-free and mattifying additives — they’re suitable for oily skin. Avoid cleansing milk, as it can clog pores and increase oil production.
Blemish-Prone Skin#
If you have blemish-prone skin, you need regular, deep cleansing. Use oil-free products when cleansing. To avoid clogged pores, prefer a weekly scrub or clay mask.
Combination Skin#
Combination skin means oily and dry areas at the same time. The so-called T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) tends to be oily, while the cheeks are rather dry. Use products with plenty of moisture but low oil content.
Sensitive Skin#
With sensitive skin, your skin is red, irritated, and flaky. Prefer cleansing lotions when cleansing. Avoid products with alcohol or soap. Avoid ingredients like fragrance, colorants, and emulsifiers — they could further irritate your skin. Micellar water works well for sensitive skin.
Normal Skin#
If you have an even, delicate complexion, count yourself lucky. Your skin tolerates almost everything — still, avoid products that are too oily. They could make your face too shiny.
Mature Skin#
As we age, our skin loses elasticity and becomes thinner. Wrinkles and age spots appear, and environmental factors add up — so the skin needs good cleansing and the right care. Anti-aging products with hyaluronic acid and collagen are good for mature skin and help prevent skin aging. Be sure to include UV protection in your routine.
