Turkish rice is cooked differently from the usual method of boiling rice in water. Here’s the recipe — and a video showing you how to make Turkish rice at home.
Ingredients for 4 servings:#
- 400 g rice
- 1 litre hot water for soaking
- 500 ml hot water
- 1–2 tbsp butter
- 5 tbsp soup noodles (orzo)
- 2 tsp salt
Method:#
- First, place the rice in a sieve and rinse under cold water. Transfer to a bowl, pour over 1 litre of hot water, and leave to soak for about 20 minutes.
- Drain the water and rinse the rice gently. After rinsing, place the sieve over the bowl and let any remaining water drip off.
- Melt the butter in a pot and toast the soup noodles until golden brown.
- Add the rice and sauté briefly, stirring constantly.
- Pour in 500 ml of hot water and add the salt. Stir briefly, cover with a lid, and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes. Important: don’t lift the lid during this time.
- After 10 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice steam on the still-warm hob for another 10 minutes.
- Your Turkish rice is now ready — serve as a side with meat or vegetables.
Cook rice this way and it will turn out perfectly every time. Try it — and you’ll never cook rice any other way.
Enjoy — and happy cooking!
