  • First, bring water to a boil in a pot.
  • Take the eggs from the fridge and hold them under warm water for a few seconds — this helps prevent them from cracking.
  • Pierce a small hole in the rounded end of the shell with an egg pricker or needle. This reduces the risk of the shell cracking.
  • Gently lower the eggs into the boiling water with a spoon and start the timer. When the time is up, remove the eggs and run them under cold water.

Egg Cooking Times:

  • 3 minutes → runny yolk, half-set white
  • 4 minutes → runny yolk, fully set white
  • 5 minutes → yolk one-third set, white fully set
  • 6 minutes → yolk half set, white fully set
  • 7 minutes → yolk slightly runny in the centre, white fully set
  • 10 minutes → egg fully set and dry

With this method and the right timing, your egg will be perfect. Whether you prefer it soft or a little firmer, you’ll find the right approach for your taste. Not sure which you prefer? Try different cooking times!

Tip: Not sure whether an egg is still fresh? There’s a simple trick. Place the egg in a glass or bowl of water. A fresh egg sinks to the bottom. If it floats on the surface, it’s more than three weeks old.
