The Best Chai Latte You'll Ever Drink!



Chai latte is a warm drink made from black tea, milk, and spices. It’s hugely popular in India, where it’s known as masala chai. In recent years it has gained a following across Europe and is now on the menu in many cafés. Of course, you can easily make this delicious drink at home. We’ll show you how — this is the best chai latte you’ll ever drink!

Ingredients:

  • 2–3 tbsp black tea
  • 100 ml milk
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • A little anise
  • 150 ml water
  • A little honey

Method:

  • Bring the water to a boil in a pot, add the spices, and let simmer gently.

  • Add a self-filled black tea bag and steep for about 5 minutes.

  • After steeping, add the honey and milk and place the lid on the pot.

  • Once everything has infused well, strain into a glass or cup.

  • If you’d like a little milk foam on top, froth some milk with a milk frother — and your delicious chai latte is ready.

Chai Syrup

You can also stir chai into warm milk as a syrup. Chai syrup is easy to make at home — keep a batch on hand or give it as a gift.

Chai Syrup Recipe:

  • 3 black tea bags
  • 500 ml water
  • 4 cloves
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 10 g fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp cardamom
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 150 g sugar

Method:

  • First, caramelise the sugar in a pot over medium heat.

  • Add the water and stir well.

  • Cut the ginger into small cubes and add to the sugar water along with the cinnamon stick.

  • Roughly crush the cardamom and cloves and add to the pot.

  • Simmer the spice mixture for about 15 minutes.

  • Strain through a muslin cloth and simmer the syrup for another 10 minutes until it reaches a syrupy consistency.

  • Pour into jars and seal tightly.

    The syrup keeps for several months!

This recipe is the classic version — and it tastes perfect. But chai latte comes in many variations to suit different tastes. Try it with chocolate, vanilla, or pumpkin spice to find your perfect flavour.

If you prefer a vegan chai latte, swap cow’s milk for plant-based milk or almond milk. With the vegan version, the milk can curdle slightly when poured into hot tea. Heating the plant milk separately first will help prevent this.
