Age is just a number, but relationships in which couples have a larger age gap can be at risk. According to a study from the USA, 3,000 couples were analyzed for this purpose. It was found that the higher the age difference, the more likely a breakup becomes. We show you the exact results of the study.
Study results by age gap:#
With an age difference of one year, the risk of separation increases by 3 percent. Couples of the same age or with a very small age gap separate less often.
With an age difference of 5 years, the risk of separation increases by 18 percent; at 10 years by 39 percent; and at an age difference of 20 years by as much as 95 percent. In relationships where couples have an age difference of more than 5 years, the risk of separation increases steadily. This may be because couples of different ages also have different interests and preferences.
For couples with an age gap of 10 years or more, the relationship can be difficult for the following reasons. The younger partner may want to meet new people, do more activities, and generally be more active. Meanwhile, the older partner may want to do less, meet fewer people, and generally be less active. This could lead to conflicts between the partners and harm the relationship over time.
